Ceremony to Consecrate Shwedagon Pagoda, Rice Offering to 11,111 Buddhist Monks Held On Eve-Vesak

It is reported that to consecrate the Shwedagon Pagoda, a total of 11,111 Buddhist monks gathered at the Shwedagon Pagoda this morning on the eve of Full Moon Day of Kason and the ceremony to offer provisions to these 11,111 Buddhist monks was held.

The holy ceremony was held at the platform of Shwedagon Pagoda and People’s Square at the dawn today.

The ceremony was formally opened by venerable Sanghas at the top-most platform of the Shwedagon Pagoda.

The Consecration ceremony of Shwedagon Pagoda was held by altogether 111 Venerable Sanghas including the Grand Patronage Venerable monks of the State, the Venerable Sanghas from State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, the Venerable Sanghas from State Central Sangha Service Committee and Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida monks

The ceremony of offering rice and other provisions to the Buddhist monks was held at the People’s Square, that was attended by altogether 11,111 Venerable Sangha from State and Region Sangha Patronage Team, Township Sangha Patronage Team, the Head of the Monasteries from Yangon Region and Sangha from Buddhist seminaries.

Over 3,400 m MMK worth offerings and other provisions were donated by the devotees including other donors and Yangon Regional Government to the venerable sangha at the consecration ceremony.

A Buddhist monk commented that today ceremony is huge and honorable for the Buddhist monks in time of hardship saying that “This is the first time that I have ever seen and attended such a kind of big event. I feel satisfied to be in here. Despite of the challenging political tension in Myanmar, it is fascinating to see such a big gathering of the members of Sangha from different directions and also in this scorching heat.”

Likewise, , more than 10,000 Sangha will be donated rice and other provisions in Mandalay tomorrow on the Full Moon Day of Kason (Vesak Day).
