Over 20 including Tatmadawmen dead in Mocha disaster

The State Administration Council (SAC) announced that over 10,000 residential houses from 11 states and regions were destroyed and 21 people died in the disaster, strong wind and strong rain due to the Cyclone Mocha.

The extremely severe cyclonic storm Mocha crossed Rakhine, Chin, Sagaing, Ayawaddy and Magway on May 14.

Cities in Rakhine State were damaged by the Cyclone Mocha. Also, some places in Naypyidaw Union Territory, Bago, Mandalay, Mon, Yangon and Shan were damaged by the storm.

According to the statistics released by SAC as of May 15, a total of 11,532 residential houses, 73 religious buildings, 47 monasteries, 163 schools and 29 hospitals including clinics from 769 of villages and wards in 11 states and regions were destructed.

In addition, 11 telecommunication towers, 119 lamp posts, five transformers, one bazaar, two airports and 112 departmental buildings were damaged in the storm, according the SAC’s statistics.

21 in total, including military servicemen who are conducting the rescue works, in 11 states and regions died in the disaster as of May 17.

At present, rescue forces including charity organizations are assisting for the resettlement programs in the disaster affected areas that hit by cyclonic storm Mocha.
