Union Government expects to open all schools in Rakhine by 3rd week of June

Mass damages occurred in Rakhine State due to the Cyclone Mocha on May 14. Schools were damaged in large scales.

At the time being, the Central Government is making efforts with mass forces from the Myanmar Military (Tatmadaw), Myanmar Police Force and Fire Service Department in repairing and rebuilding the damaged schools in order to be able to open in school opening time on June 1.

There are over 3000 schools in Rakhine State. The government plans to open the schools after clustering two groups. Both groups are expected to open all by the third week of June, the Spokesperson of the State Administration Council said.

The Spokesperson Major General Zaw Min Tun informed this on May 26 to the news media.

“All schools throughout the country will be opened on June 1. For Rakhine State, there will be two groups. One is expected to open on June 1. The rest one will be opened in third week of June,” Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun said.

There are 487 basic high schools, 1171 middle schools and 1535 primary schools, altogether 3193 schools in Rakhine.

Amongst, 2410 schools are projected to open on June 1, according to the spokesperson.

He said, “A total of 2410 schools are expected to open on June 1. Therefore, 75 percent of all schools in Rakhine are projected to open on June 1. The rest will be opened in third week of June. Therefore, 100 percent of all schools in Rakhine will be opened by third week.”

There are 17 basic high schools in Sittwe. At the time being, Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun said, 60 percent of reconstructions have been completed.

The State Administration Council is preparing its steadfast efforts to open the schools and delivering textbooks, educational items and other related accessories to the schools on time.

On the other hand, PDF terrorists are threatening and killing the schoolteachers not to open the schools.
