Over 16,000 dengue fever cases observed in 2023

According to information from the Ministry of Health, at least 16,000 dengue fever cases were identified across the country in 2023; mostly in five states and regions, including Yangon.

From 1 January to 9 December 2023, a total of 16,130 dengue fever cases were confirmed, mostly in Yangon, Mon, Rakhine, Ayeyawady and Naypyidaw.

Public participation also plays an important role in the prevention and control of dengue fever, and it is necessary to follow the prevention and control measures.

About 400 million people in the world are infected with dengue every year, and it is reported that the highest incidence can be observed in Myanmar, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Previously, dengue cases in Myanmar were mostly among people under 15 years old. However, since last ten years, the incidents have been increasing within the age group ranging between 10 and 15.

According to the statistics, 15,131 dengue cases with 68 mortalities were observed in 2020 while it dropped to 5,446 cases with 36 deaths in 2021.
