SAC prioritizes correct voter lists to hold the election in 2023

Obtaining accurate voter lists is one of the priorities of the State Administration Council (SAC) to ensure a free and fair election in 2023.

The country’s power will be handed over to the winning party, the council confirmed.

SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Vice Senior General Soe Win attended the voter list preparation meeting held at the Office of the Chair of the State Administration Council on April 1st in Naypyidaw.

Vice Senior General Soe Win stressed that correct and accurate voter lists is important. It is a basic requirement to convene the free and fair election in 2023. He encouraged finishing the verification check of the basic voter lists with on-the-ground population before 2023.

Five-point roadmap of the SAC states “upon accomplishing the provisions of the state of emergency, free and fair multiparty democratic elections will be held in line with the 2008 Constitution, and further work will be undertaken to hand over State duties to the winning party in accordance with democratic standards".

The vice-chair urged the authorities of the states and regions to execute a door-to-door screening process cooperating with different levels of the election commission and the Ministry of Immigration and Population to examine if every eligible voter possesses the national registration card and the household registration list (Form 66/6).

Union Election Commission and the relevant ministries have met in March and discussed issues related to electoral processes. Issues related to getting assistance from the Defense Services had also been discussed with the officials, he added.
