Kachin Independent Army (KIA) and its affiliate group attacked one of the frontline troops of the Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA) on August 8 at an estimated 1 am, Colonel Sai Aung Mein of the SNA told the NP News.
“The incident happened at around 1 am this morning. There is a frontline camp of us; we call it Shwe Pyi Myit camp. The KIA and its affiliate group attacked as a surprise raid. Their forces outnumbered us. So we retreated,” Col. Sai Aung Mein said.
"It happened around 1 am this morning. We have a small front camp called Shwepyi River Camp. A small camp of ours based there was attacked by the KIA and joint forces. At the time of the attack, their forces were outnumbered, so we ordered our troops to retreat," said Colonel Sai Aung Main.
Causality from both sides has not been confirmed yet.
There are rumours that SNA and Tatmadaw troops are taking a foothold together. However, Colonel Sai Aung Mein refused. “It is only the SNA troop. No other troop is taking a foothold there. Some says disinformation that the SNA is taking a foothold together with the Tatmadaw. They said we are a proxy armed-wing of the military council,” he said.
“We are calculating the situations currently. Our troops retreated and are monitoring the situation. If they come back and attack, we will have to stand on the side of the people and defend the public interest,” said Colonel Sai Aung Mein.
