If 2020 election was free and fair, situations would be different: Army Chief

Chairman of the State Administration Council Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said, “If the 2020 election was free and fair, situations in current period would be different.

He told this message on August 8 during the cabinet meeting held in Naypyidaw.

Senior General disclosed that he conducted in person talk with the party leaders as per the request of the political parties in election preparation period and proposed the possible electoral fraud manipulated by the ruling party.

He said, “If the 2020 General Election was free and fair, such turmoil in current situation won’t be happened,” continuing that voter list gap in an aspect of country’s population growth rate comparing 2020 election and 2015 election was huge. Voter list inaccuracies were observed when scrutinizing the voter lists.

The Army Chief claims that the country’s responsibility was unavoidably taken under State of Emergency after requested to call the parliament session to clarify the voter list disputes by the respective authority.

The State Administration Council announced to hold the multi-party election in 2023 by PR system.

At present, the Union Election Commission is conducting voter list preparations and ground verification processes for ensuring the accuracy of the voter list in the upcoming election.
