British former ambassador to Myanmar Vicky Bowman and her husband artist Htain Lin violate the existing laws of the host country, Myanmar, and therefore were arrested by authorities yesterday (August 25).
The former ambassador was granted of visa validity in Myanmar from October 21, 2021 to October 22, 2022. She arrived the country on December 8, 2019 via Yangon Airport.
Local authorities issued certification on March 9, 2022 to Vicky Bowman to live at Pan Hlaing Housing located in Sangyoung Township of Yangon Region as per the third paragraph of Form (a) of the 1948 Registration of Foreigners Rules, State Administration Council stated.
However, Vicky Bowman and her husband Htain Lin lived in the house located in Kalaw, Shan State that was owned by Htain Lin instead of she was supposed to live at the address granted by and reported to the authorities. The couple has been residing in Kalaw house from May 4, 2021 to August 9, 2022, authorities claim.
The ex-ambassador failed to report to change address in accord with the 1948 Registration of Foreigners Rules. The husband Htain Lin supported the British woman violating the domestic law.
Therefore, the local authorities charge the couple under Section 13(1)/ 13(5) of the 1947 Immigration Law (current provisions).
