Arbitration on civil cases led by courts effective despite of lack of JICA assistance

The arbitration system on the civil law cases that was resumed practices recently led by the courts is efficacious although Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had ceased its aid to Supreme Court after the military takeover.
It was expressed in the report on the pilot project of the arbitration system that was published by the Union Supreme Court in recent days.
The JICA supported the Union Supreme Court in implementing the court-led mediation and arbitration on the civil cases that was projected to start in 2019.
The JICA reportedly provided technological assistance and other required properties including furniture and equipment to the Union Supreme Court. Desks, chairs, wardrobe, computer, printer, air con, vinyl wallpapers, pamphlets, posters and badges were included in the aid provided by the JICA that was supported by the Japanese government.
However, the JICA has suspended its support to the Union Supreme Court for the abovementioned program since February 11, 2021, the report says.
Since then, the practices of court-led arbitration system on the civil lawsuits have been carried out under the plan of the Union Supreme Court.
The report expresses that a total of 3,678 cases were exercised through the arbitration center within three years from 2019 to July 2022. Amongst, 1,039 (28.3 percent) were successfully resolved before litigation, report says.
The judiciary courts across the country have commenced the arbitration system on the civil law cases led by the courts on August 1.
