Remittance to Myanmar within nine years over 6b USD

Total remittance from Myanmar migrant workers to their families within nine years since 2014 was more than six billion USD, Union Minister of the Labour Ministry Dr. Pwint Sann said.
The union minister told this information during the coordination meeting held at the ministry on September 5.
Statistics of the remittance from Myanmar nationals working in abroad are categorized by the Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) into Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and others since 2014.
The total amount of returning foreign money back to their families by Myanmar national expatriates, according to the data released by the CBM, amounted to 6152.044m USD, the minister said.
At present, the Labour Ministry sends blue- and white-collar workers in accordance with criteria after thorough scrutinizing.
‘Remittance plays important role in earning foreign currency and the country’s development,’ the minister said.
The Union Minister Dr. Pwint San also urged the employment agencies which make arrangements for seeking foreign jobs; to conduct employment interviews and visa application processes should provide enough assistance to the employees when they transfer money to their families to make sure a legal remittance.
The CBM recently announced that remittance from migrant workers can exchange their dollars into local currency freely since the CBM imposed restrictions on remittance issues before.
