Myanmar, Russia sign MoU on feasibility study for constructing nuclear power plant

According to the statement released by the State Administration Council, Myanmar’s Ministry of Electric Power and Russia’s #ROSATOM (Росатом) signed the memorandum of understanding on the feasibility studies and exploratory measurements to build a nuclear power plant in Myanmar.

The Myanmar delegation led by the Ministry of Electric Power, Union Minister Thaung Han, and the Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw attended the second day of the 12th #XII_International_Forum_ATOMEXPO_2022 held in Sochi, Russia on November 23.

The #Myanmar delegation studied the scenarios and structures of the nuclear-based power plant constructed by the international, nuclear-based pharmaceutical displays, and research exhibits at the forum.

Alexey Likhachev, the Director General of ROSATOM invited Myanmar to attend the forum.

The Myanmar delegation also visited the Nuclear Power Plant, Small Scale Hydropower Plant, Wind Power Plant, and universities and schools for Science and Technology during their Russia trip.

Myanmar is implementing the National Electrification Plan to have full access to electricity throughout the country by 2030.

A Nuclear Technology Information Center will be established and opened in Yangon. The agreement was also signed between Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM and Myanmar Ministry of Science and Technology in recent days.

The United States has disclosed its support to Thailand, Myanmar’s immediate neighbor, for constructing a nuclear power plant with new technology.
