MOU on Myanmar-Laos Electric Cooperation extended five years

Myanmar and Laos signed the amendment of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Myanmar-Laos Electric Cooperation extending five years.

The signing ceremony was held on April 3 at Jasmin Nay Pyi Taw Hotel in Naypyidaw.

Deputy Prime Minister, Admiral Tin Aung San addressed that the two countries are cooperating on regional issues as both nations are member states of the ASEAN and Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).

The original MOU was signed on 15 January 2018. PISASAI and Mine Investment Pte. Ltd. and Primus Sapphire Power Company Limited cooperated within five years of the MOU period.

According to the terms and conditions of the extended MOU, Myanmar and Laos will cooperate on Mekong River hydropower projects, including the transmission of up to 6,000 megawatts of electricity.

In addition, the cross-border power line project of the two countries is expected to be completed in 2024 to Keng Tung and to Meiktila city in 2026.
