Phyo/Munich (NP News) - Dec 19

According to information from the State Administration Council (SAC), there are at least 13 political parties based in Yangon Region are preparing to contest in the upcoming elections.
It is reported that under the current SAC government, the Political Parties Registration Law has been revised, and according to this law, a total of 53 political parties have been granted registration.
Among the registered political parties, there are currently 13 parties based in Yangon Region. These parties are required to focus their election campaigns within Yangon Region only.
The political parties based in Yangon Region include the Myanmar People’s Democratic Party, the National Political Alliance League Party, the Public of Labour Party, the Democratic Party, the New National Democracy Party, the New National Political Strength Party, the United Nationalities Democracy Party, the Labour Party, the 88 Generation Student Youths (Union of Myanmar) Party, the Party for People, the Peace Advocate Party, the Equality and Peace Party, and the Unity and Development Party.
"Political parties based in Yangon Region are allowed to contest in the constituencies in Yangon. Being based in Yangon does not mean they can only compete for the Yangon Region Hluttaw. They are eligible to compete in the Pyithu Hluttaw and the Amyotha Hluttaw constituencies in Yangon. On a nationwide level, parties are allowed to compete in any constituency across the country. For example, a party based in Yangon cannot compete in the constituency in Bago. This gives nationwide-based parties an advantage, as they can compete in any district across the country and, therefore, have the opportunity to represent a majority in Parliament. On the other hand, parties based in specific regions or states will only have the right to represent their own areas," said Vice-Chairman U Khaing Min from the New National Democratic Party in an interview with the Statesman Journal.
In previous elections, there were 12 Amyotha Hluttaw constituencies, 45 Pyithu Hluttaw constituencies, and 90 Region Hluttaw constituencies within Yangon Region.
Similarly, it is observed that in the previous elections, a total of over 1,100 constituencies across the entire country were able to conduct elections.
It is also reported that, according to the newly revised Political Parties Registration Law, there are currently 9 political parties that are organizing nationwide.
The political parties organizing nationwide across the country include the Union Solidarity and Development Party, the National Unity Party, the People’s Pioneer Party, the Democratic Party of National Politics, the Myanmar Farmers' Development Party, the Shan and Ethnic Peoples' Democratic Party (White Tiger Party), the Women's Party (Mon), the National Democratic Force, and the People's Party.
It is reported that the current SAC government plans to hold the upcoming general election in November 2025, and based on the security situation in the regions, the election may be conducted in phases. –
