In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Myanmar-Russia diplomatic relations, the Myanmar government sent six elephants to the Great Moscow Circus, as reported by the Russian state-owned news agency Russia Today on January 12.
In the footage by the RT, Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is seen alongside the graceful young elephants from Myanmar, with scenes showing the elephants being fed.
Diplomatic relations between the USSR (former Soviet Union) and Myanmar were established on February 18, 1948. On February 18, 2023, Russia and Myanmar celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
Since Myanmar gained independence from British colonial rule, the USSR (now Russia) has been a reliable and supportive partner. Furthermore, during Myanmar's political crisis since 2021, Russia has stood by Myanmar on the international stage, opposing sanctions and condemnation.
Additionally, during times of disaster and the pandemic, Russia has been a supportive partner to Myanmar. As a result, it is expected that the Myanmar-Russia relationship will endure for many more years.
