India has provided cement for the Kalewa-Yargyi road section of the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway Project, according to reports.
As a symbol of India's assistance in Myanmar's earthquake recovery efforts, 275 metric tons (MT) of cement were handed over by the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr. Abhay Thakur, at the Yangon Port on May 27. Part of this cement will be used for the Kalewa-Yargyi section of the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway Project, according to a press release from the Indian Embassy.
The Kalewa-Yagyi-Monywa road spans 115 miles and includes 174 temporary timber bridges and 183 conduits. Construction began in 2000 and the road was officially opened in 2003-2004.
Following that, from 2018 onwards, India has supported the upgrading of 69 bridges located on the Yargyi-Kalewa road, the Kalewa-Kyikone-Kalay road, and the Kalewa-Kalay-Tamu road through its Grant Aid assistance.
