Phyo (NP News) - June 7
A state-owned newspaper reported that the Department of Alternative Education, under the Ministry of Education, will open a total of 89 vocational high schools across the country for the 2025–2026 academic year. These institutions will specialize in technical, agricultural, and livestock breeding education.
Students who have successfully completed Grade 9 are eligible to apply. While the original application window ran from 22 May to 1 June, the department has announced that late applications will be accepted to accommodate students who missed the deadline due to unforeseen circumstances.
To support students in their chosen fields, the program will provide subject-specific textbooks and a monthly stipend of MMK 10,000 for ten months.
The Department of Alternative Education was created to provide educational opportunities for those who are unable to pursue traditional academic pathways. It aims to promote lifelong learning and bridge gaps in formal education, particularly for underserved and out-of-school populations through a range of literacy and skills-based programs.
Launched in the 2023–2024 academic year, the vocational high school initiative has already seen strong interest, with over 9,200 students enrolled nationwide.
