Union Election Committee (UEC) said that the voter lists shall be verified and scrutinized thoroughly by the township level officers of the sub-election commissions, general administration, immigration departments, and the township units of the political parties before the finalization of voter lists preparation.
State Administration Council is making its efforts to convene the multi-parties general election in 2023.
Sections related to voter list preparations and verification in the election laws and bylaws for the respective Hluttaw have been redrafted by the UEC in order to enact the amendment of the laws, the UEC member Khin Maung Oo said.
According to the revised version of the election law for the respective Hluttaw, the voter list is prepared based on the population figures presented by the administration officers and the Ministry of Immigration and Population complying with the population table designated by the Commission.
As per the amended laws, the voter shall be a citizen or associate citizen, or neutralized citizen who has attained 18 years of age on the election day. The name of the voters shall be listed in the eligible voter list only after the verification is made with the Household Registration Form (66/6), National Registration Card, and certificates of Associate or Neutralized Citizenship Card accordingly.
Khin Maung Oo added that before the finalized voter list is publicized,
voter list verification processes must be conducted altogether by township-level officers of the sub-commission, general administration, personnel from the immigration and population department, ward and village administrators, and the political parties.
The UEC has started the voter list preparations in September 2021 for the upcoming 2023 Election.
