NP News – June 2
United Wa State Army (UWSA) – the Wa group - proposed to attain 'self-ruling' except for national defense and diplomatic policy during the peace talk meeting with the State Administration Council (SAC) in the last week of May in Naypyidaw.

The Wa group guarantees ‘Non-disintegration’ which is the only demand asked by the SAC to the ethnic armed forces, according to Nyi Rang, the liaison officer at the Lashio office of the UWSA.

SAC’s information team leader Major General Zaw Min Tun told that the SAC has already agreed to provide autonomy to ‘self-ruling’ or ‘self-legislation’ to the states and regions including Wa territory.

“With respect to the demand asked by the Wa group, we have already agreed to provide higher status in principle. Not only the ‘Wa’ group, but we have also already agreed to provide ‘self-ruling’ and ‘self-legislation’ to other states and regions in principle,” Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun said.

The Defense Services has already agreed to conduct necessary amendments in the Constitution since the country is intending to build a union system which bases on democracy and federalism, and is ready to grant ‘self-ruling’ or ‘self-legislation’ to the ethnic groups. Meanwhile, the ethnics have to guarantee ‘Non-disintegration’, he continued.

“The thing is different countries are practicing democracy or federalism. But there isn’t an ideal type of democracy or federalism. The practices exercised by the countries aren’t identical to each other. We have to build our country with the best and fittest type to our history, races, internal affairs, and the environment. We have to compromise and negotiate between us,” said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun.

The United Wa State Army/ Party doesn’t involve in the current political crisis that happened in Myanmar since it doesn’t want to spark a fire and takes this current political dilemma as a matter of the Bamar ethnic, the liaison officer said.

The UWSA suggests that armed resistance isn’t the solution to resolve the conflicts that have been rooted in the country for more than 70 years after the independence, and it is suitable for all conflicts that occurred between the ethnics including Bamar.

The Wa group also urged and requested the stakeholders that are involved in this current political crisis not to lose invaluable human lives and not to hand over the hatred to the next descendants from these armed conflicts.

The UWSA pledged to preserve the peace by maintaining and obeying the provisions included in the state level and union level peace agreements with the government.

There are six hundred thousand of populations living in the UWSA territory.

Last but not least, the Wa group will preserve the peace no matter if an agreement with the government isn’t attained for self-administration, the UWSA stated.
