NP News - July 15
There are a total of 671 factories working under the CMP (Cut-Make-Pack) system local which provides nearly 400,000 workers, Nyunt Win, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Labour told the NP News. Of which, factories operating with the CMP system including garments, shoes, and wigs are 632; 39 factories employ workers in the CMP system with salary-based.

Some garment factories working with CMP system in Myanmar closed. Meanwhile new investments also flow in the industry.

“Some garment factories downsized or temporary closed. There are new factories on the other hand. Therefore, number of the factories operating in the industry doesn’t change in average,” the permanent secretary said.

“Workers from the factories which were closed return working at the newly operated factories. Labour market doesn’t change generally with neither an increase nor decrease in employment opportunities. There isn’t much jobless rate in the market,” he added.

China, Taiwan and Korea mainly invest in the industry, following Japan, India and Thailand.
