The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General Noeleen Heyzer is arriving in Myanmar tomorrow (August 17), the United Nations released statement.
Major General Zaw Min Tun confirmed her visit. “Yes, she will arrive tomorrow. She will be meeting with relevant ministers and other State leaders,” Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun told NP News, adding that no request is made by the special envoy to meet with former State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.
“Following the latest call from the Security Council for an immediate cessation of all forms of violence and unimpeded humanitarian access to all those in needs, she will focus on addressing the deteriorating situation and immediate concerns as well as other priority areas of her mandate,” expressed in the UN’s statement.
She was appointed as the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General to Myanmar in October 2021. This is her visit to Myanmar.
