Second-round peace talks kicked off

Second time of peace discussion between pro-peace ethnic armed forces and the government has been kicked off.

Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met delegations of PNLO (Pa-O National Liberation Organization), ALP (Arakan Liberation Party) and LDU (Lahu Democratic Union) at Bayintnaung Venue in yesterday (August 22) in Naypyidaw.

Delegations led by PNLO Chairman Khun Thu Rein, LDU General Secretary Kyar Solomon and ALP Vice-Chairwoman Saw Mra Yarzar Lin attended the talk.

“Today meeting, the head of the State presented on principles and ideologies to practice multi-party democracy system and to build a Union based on democracy and federal values,” Vice-Chairwoman of the ALP Saw Mra Yarzar Lin told NP News.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing discussed willing for the State prosperity saying that he values perspectives of the ethnic armed groups’ leaders. The Army Chief requested the EAOs to cooperate in the peace process.

He addressed two national objectives of the peace talks which are – having prosperity and enough food during the talk.

The EAO delegations also presented and discussed their needs, demands and visions.

The ALP Vice-Chairwoman Saw Mra Yarzar Lin said, “We take ourselves as one of those who participate together for the State’s well-beings. Therefore, we discussed for nationwide peace and forward plans.” She also discussed for peace, tranquility and development of Rakhine State.

Saw Mra Yarzar Lin also urged to resolve the country crisis by means of dialogue rather than military approaches.

The delegations of PNLO, ALP and LDU will meet with National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee led by Lt. Gen. Yar Pyae in the following days in Naypyidaw.
