Eight attackers against Insein Prison arrested

Members of a terrorist group SOF (Special Operation Force) which shelled the Insein Prison with 60 mm mortar; eight of them were arrested by authorities on August 23, according to the statement released by the State Administration Council on August 29.

The group shelled the Insein Prison on August 22 with a 60 mm mortar that is manufactured by the Kachin Independence Army.

One of the terrorists named Tun Tun Han was captured by the authorities on August 23 in Mawlamyaing together with the committed weapon, according to the statement.

Two other members named Pyae Phyo Paing and Myo Zaw Lin were arrested on the following day morning in Kyaikmaraw township of Mon State; and Aung Zaw Myint and Thant Sin in North Okkalapa Township in Yangon respectively in accord with the confession made by Tun Tun Han, the statement said.

Other associate terrorists and suspects were captured on the following days; Myo Min Zaw on August 25 in Insein township, Yangon; Thuzar Thin (a woman) and Nyan Htet Zan on August 26 were arrested, according to the statement.

The mastermind of the plot is known as Win Ko who is still escaped and he provided the necessary weapons for the plot. He paid 200,000 MMK to each terror member of the Insein Prison attack.

The terrorist group ‘Special Operation Force’ was organized by the youth coordinator of Thanlyin township National League for Democracy in May 2022 with 49 members.

The SOP committed a terror attack at the checkpoint located on Inya Road’s Zawgyi Street in Kamayut township on April 10. Again on July 19, the group attacked the control box near Hlaing railway station with remote devices, according to the statement.
