Sagaing Govt to help rise of agriculture & livestock businesses within region

The Sagaing Region government will be formulating projects to assist for the emergence of agricultural and livestock businesses for commercial purposes, Sagaing Region Chief Minister Myat Kyaw said.
Overall agricultural industry has been declined in Sagaing Region since some townships in the region cannot grow or produce crops and husbandry products as a negative impact of the current political crisis.
Sagaing is one of the important regions in Myanmar for the agricultural sector.
Over 30 percent of the regional economy of Sagaing depends on agricultural sector since food security in the region in aspect of rice accounts 212.79%, edible oil 504.34%, and beans and pulses 964.3%.
“For the development of agricultural, animal husbandry and farming sectors, the related departments, private sector stakeholders and farmers need to cooperate together throughout the chain process in order to be able to produce good quality products.” the regional chief minister said.
There are more than 231 million acres of land in Sagaing Region in total. Amongst, 45.6 million acres are farm lands and more than 90 million acres of land are for intercrops. Not only rice cultivation, but also the region grows oil seeds.
The Sagaing Region government said it will provide necessary requirements to promote the development of fishery products in line with international standards without affecting the natural environment and ecosystem.
