Fire clashes between the Myanmar military and Shan State Progressive Party/ Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) in Momeik, northern Shan State continue to intensify, reports say.

The two troops exchanged fire on September 17 evening near Hwaikham valley located in the north of Wanong village in Momeik, as confirmed by the SSPP.

There were casualties and injured in the clash.

The SSPP/SSA troops were notified to withdraw from Momeik via the residential ward administrator on September 16. However, the SSPP did not retreat. When Tatmadaw columns launched a fierce fight, troops exchanged fire and clashes occurred, the SSPP said.

However, according to the reports, battles were paused until the evening of September 18 despite reinforcements were engaged by both troops.
