Union Attorney-General highlights non-interference of a nation’s internal affair at AALCO Conference

At the 60th Annual Session of Asian – African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), the Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Union Attorney-General Dr. Thida Oo made a speech highlighting the importance of having respect for the sovereignty of a nation and non-interference in internal affairs of a nation.

The AALCO is held in New Delhi, India, from 25th to 29th September and the delegates from AALCO member nations attended the conference.

At the conference, Union Attorney-General Dr. Thida Oo said that the AALCO emerged as a Non-Aligned Movement after the Bandung Conference and only Asian and African countries are involved.
In ten principles of Bandung, it reads:

- Respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations,
- Abstention from intervention or interference in the internal affairs of another country,
- Respect for the right of each nation to defend itself singly or collectively, in conformity with the Charter of the United Nations
- Refraining from acts or threats of aggression or the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any country and Settlement of all international disputes by peaceful means and
- Respecting international obligations

Moreover, she also stated that Asia and African regions are consecutively developing nowadays and becoming more appropriate to do investment. Necessary rules and laws have already been enacted in Myanmar to create a favorable atmosphere for investors. Therefore, if foreign investors are making investment in Myanmar, they can enjoy favorable benefits through a better commodities flow towards the global market.

The Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), formerly known as the Asian Legal Consultative Committee (ALCC), was constituted on 15 November 1956. It is considered to be a tangible outcome of the historic Bandung Conference, held in April 1955.

Myanmar is one of the founding members. Myanmar, Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Japan and the United Arab Republic are the original Member States.
