Tun MT (NP News) - Oct 25

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) released a press statement with regard to the air bombardment on 23rd October evening.

What a surprise is that no precise list or number of fatality is mentioned in the KIA statement although most news outlets that are blacklisted by the State Administration Council (SAC) reported casualty was high, almost 50 or 60, including the KIA officers at high-level ranks, civilians and attendees at the eve of the KIA’s 62nd anniversary celebration.

However, on the other hand, the SAC’s press statement on the incident prescribes: “According to the ground information and based on the insider information from Laiza and KIO central headquarter, the KIA personnel and PDF terrorists including Sharol La Sai who is at the rank of Brigade Commander; Zel Taung who is at the rank of deputy-brigade commander; Dukba Laung who is at the level of circuit commander; and Peyren, who is in charge of resource measurement died in the incident.”

There is something that shouldn’t be failed to report with respect to the KIA’s recruitment strategy in the Kachin territory.

Children in both genders in Kachin land, when reach in their teenage, are summoned by the KIA to enroll for the military service in the KIA for a few years. Those with qualified capacity in military affairs are recruited as the personnel by the KIA while some others are assigned to act as the cadres in different fields and sectors, especially in the mainland as models, teachers, or CSOs.
