Upper Kyang Taung hydropower plant projected to finish 80% end of this fiscal year

The Upper Kyang Taung hydropower plant project which is expected to generate 267 million Kilowatt-hour is projected to complete 100 percent in March 2025.
At present, 72.20 percent of the whole project has been successfully implemented and therefore, 76.57 percent is targeted to be finished at the end of 2022-2023 FY.
The Union Minister of the Ministry of Electric Power Thaung Han mentioned this expectation during his visit to the project site on October 23.
Myanmar is carrying out the hydropower plant projects, depending on the availability of natural resources, as they are cost-effective and provide the least environmental and social impacts, the minister said.
The Upper Kyang Taung hydropower plant project is in progress under the supervision of No.5 Construction led by the Hydropower Implementation Department, Southern Shan State at 14 miles away from the southwest of Kyang Taung township, near Num Tain creek.
The main dam of the Upper Kyaung Taung hydropower plant is 1800 ft. in length, and 230 ft. in high. It is a rockfill zone type dam and its water storage capacity is 1.04 lakh acre-feet.
The project is expected to generate 267 million kWh with total installation power 51 megawatts from three machines of 17 megawatts, the minister said.
The whole project is projected to be completed 100 percent in March 2025.
The electricity that will be generated from Kyang Taung Hydropower Plant and the energy released from the currently operating Kyang Taung Hydropower Plant will be transmitted countrywide through the 230 KV National Grid via Namsan Main Substation.
