Myanmar naval vessel sails to attend International Fleet Review in Cox’s Bazar

The Myanmar delegation led by Captain Thein Soe from #Myanmar_Navy, together with the warship ‘Kyan Sittha’, has left to attend the event in Bangladesh in early December from No. 3 Thilawa Naval Base, according to the reports released by the State Administration Council.

The combatant ship ‘Kyan Sittha’ is expected to participate in the #International_Fleet_Review-IFR that will be convened from December 6 to 9, 2022 and hosted by the Bangladesh Navy.

The upcoming December 24 will turn the Myanmar Navy in its Diamond Jubilee Anniversary.

The Myanmar Navy started modernization, especially in 2011, when the current Commander-in-Chief became the highest position in the State defense forces.

Myanmar launched its first indigenous frigate “Aung Zeya” which entered service in 2011 and took part in a joint exercise with Indian Navy ships in early 2013.

“Kyan Sittha” is the second ship and entered service in 2012.

Myanmar is the 5th ASEAN country acquiring the submarines since Myanmar bought a refurbished Soviet submarine from India using credit intended to strengthen defence ties in 2020. In December 2021 received an UMS Minye Kyaw Htin submarine from China, reportedly for free as a donation to Myanmar’s Navy.

In 2019, Myanmar’s Mottama warship made its first visit to Vladivostok harbour in Russia’s Far East.

Myanmar is invited by the International Fleet Review-IFR Bangladesh as ‘Ship and Delegation’ among 40 countries including Australia, Brazil, Brunei, China, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Qatar, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, USA, UK and Vietnam.
