Myanmar expects to substitute foreign raw products with local ones

The Southeast Asian country, #Myanmar, is trying to replace foreign raw materials that are mainly used for its domestic #industrial_sector with local products as part of reducing imports, according to the Directorate of Industrial Supervision and Inspection (DISI), Yangon Region.

The Yangon Region DISI organized a trade exhibition this morning at Myanmar Convention Center (MCC) located in Yangon.

The deputy director of the DISI Dr. Khin Thawdar Win underlined it in an interview during the opening of today's exhibition.

The trade exhibition displays local products manufactured from 29 Industrial Zones of the Yangon Region including clothes, medicines, foods, clay products, and household appliances.

“Purposes of this event also involve to exchange technology between domestic entrepreneurs and utilize more local products as the raw materials instead of importing among domestic businesses,” Dr. Khin Thawdar Win said.

The event is being held in honor of the upcoming 75th diamond jubilee of Independence Day, she added.

Yangon has a total of 29 Industrial Zones at present; with 17 zones in North District, 11 in the East District and one in the South District in terms of formerly counted as four districts. As an update, the region has been now expanded to 14 districts.

The Yangon Chief Minister Soe Thein attended and opened the event.

The exhibition will be convened for four days from 15 to 18 December.
