Authorities pledge to repair damaged pagodas in Central Myanmar that were hit by recent earthquakes

The Department of Archaeology and National Museum announced on December 15 that the damaged ancient buildings, pagodas and stupas in the recent sporadic #earthquakes that shook in the previous days in #Mandalay will be repaired as soon as possible.

On December 15, the earthquake with 5.2 Richter scales hit Mandalay and Tada-U at an estimated 3:30 pm.

The Department of Archaeology and National Museum examined the degrees of wrecks and damages by earthquake. ‘Thitsar Tike (Yadanabonthar) Pagoda located within Innwa city wall; Malnu Oke Kyaung; Mandalay Mya Nann San Kyaw Golden Palace; and floors located in the east and north of the palace were cracked and damaged.

Similarly, the diamond bud and the vane of Myan Thein Tan Temple were broken and landed; the Lion sculpture in the temple’s south gate was also damaged. Upper part of the Sat Taw Yar pagoda was cracked in Sagaing Region.

The Department of Archaeology and National Museum announced that a total of seven pagodas and 12 statues including some ancient buildings were destroyed in the disaster.

Again on December 16, another four times of earthquake shook Mandalay next times with 3.6 Richter scales at two miles away from Southeast of Pyigyitagon at 6:45 am; with 3.3 Richter scales at three miles away from the east of Myitnge at 1:29 pm; and 4.7 Richter scales at three miles away from the Southwest of Amarapura at 1:28 pm, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced.
