Driver-substitution system that is usually used between Myanmar and China border trade routes as Myanmar drivers were not permitted to pass the borderline gates, wherein Chinese drivers are substituted is now expected to remove; and therefore, Myanmar cargo trucks are expected to pass through the gates with Myanmar drivers.
The Kyinsankyawt post, one of the main checkpoints on #Myanmar_China #border_route, has the potential to remove the driver-substitution system.
The system has been deleted at Lweje gate in Kachin state on the Myanmar-China border route, according to the merchants.
“We’ve heard that Myanmar lorries will be able to pass the border with Myanmar drivers at the Kyinsankyawt post. If the driver-substitution system is removed, many costs will be reduced for us such as charges for the substitute drivers and other labour charges,” a trader from Muse told NP News.
Myanmar traders have to cost about 10 lakhs of kyats to carry 1000 bags of rice with a 50-ton truck to reach China. Therefore, costs will be decreased if the driver-substitution system is removed.
Myanmar exports rice, broken rice, crops, corn, sesame, rubber, onions, aqua products and pepper to China and imports construction material, electric material, machines, foods, pharmaceutical products, and solar-related products from China.
Between 150 and 160 trucks are regularly passing through the border from Myanmar daily.
