Rakhine constituencies, including 9 disenfranchised by NLD, prepares for next election

The designated electoral constituencies in #Rakhine State, including nine constituencies that were deprived eligible voters for the right to vote by the NLD administration in the previous #2020_General_Election, are now preparing for the upcoming #2023_General_Election.
At present, Union Election Sub-commissions from the designated constituencies in Rakhine State are conducting procurements and preparing statistics of the polling equipment and election supplies for the next election.
“Currently, we have validated population list. To make a validated voter list, the general administrative department and department of immigration and man power scrutinize the population lists. After the scrutiny processes, we have to give the validated population lists who are qualified to become the voters. And then, we start to compile the voter lists” one of the officers from the Rakhine State Election Commission said to NP News.
Buthidaung Township was one of the constituencies that were disenfranchised by the NLD government in the previous 2020 election. Now, data processing of population statistics is being conducted in Buthidaung constituency.
“Here in Rakhine, we are conducting matters especially related to polling stations including polling equipment and voting stations. However, we have not started matters related to the voter lists. In 2020, there were altogether nine townships disenfranchised in Rakhine. The elections took place only in eight townships in Rakhine. Now the voter lists and polling equipment are being prepared for the whole Rakhine State.” the election officer continued.
In 2020 General Election, altogether 9 townships, including Pauktaw, Ponnagyun, Rathedaung, Buthidaung and Maungdaw, were left out as the constituencies in it.
The State Administration Council has announced to hold the upcoming 2023 General Election. The upcoming General Election will use proportional representation system.
