Army Chief pledges to hold election ASAP after 2024 census

The Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing formally announced to hold the general election as soon as possible after the 2024 national census is taken.

According to the statement released by the State Administration Council, the CIC addressed it during meeting with the Tatmadaw families, officers and crews from Lashio, Eastern North Regional Military Command on 9th September.

As usually, he highlighted the accuracy of the voter lists and right to vote for all eligible voters are important in his speech. The voter list for the election will be based on the data received from the 2024 National Census, he added.

“Only census is taken, the election will be able to be convened,” the CIC said.

Senior General stated that the Tatmadaw will make sure for regional security affairs so as to carry out the census which keys for holding the election as soon as possible.

The National Census will be taking from 1st October 2024 to 15th October 2024, according to the announcement made by the State Administration Council.
