Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) stated that efforts are being made to implement a proportional representation (PR) system in the Region and State Hluttaws, as well as the Amyotha Hluttaw, which will allow a wide range of representatives from ethnic groups and various social classes to participate.

This statement was made by the SAC Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing during a meeting held on 19 November at the meeting hall of the Office of the State Administration Council in Naypyidaw.

The Chairman stated that political parties have been granted permission to register in accordance with the Political Parties Registration Law. He emphasized the need for greater involvement of ethnic representatives in the political sphere, enabling them to advocate for the interests of their respective states.

The Chairman also highlighted that preparations for the election are underway, with over 63 percent of the national population and housing census successfully collected. He further mentioned that efforts are ongoing to collect data in the remaining areas, and it is expected that the census will be completed by the end of this year.

The Chairman stated, “Irregularities occurred during the 2020 general election. Therefore, in the upcoming elections, efforts will be made to ensure the accuracy of the voter lists and prevent any discrepancies. SAC members will be responsible for ensuring the correctness of the voter lists by dividing the tasks among themselves. Additionally, the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine system will be used for the upcoming election.”

He also mentioned, “Neighboring country India currently uses this voting system, which helps ensure the accuracy of voter lists. Furthermore, the upcoming election may be conducted securely by dividing it into different segments.”
