Tatmadaw, MNDAA agree ceasefire

It is reported that Myanmar Tatmadaw and the Kokang armed insurgents MNDAA agreed ceasefire on 18 January under Chinese mediation, spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of People’s Republic of China, Ms. Mao Ning, said during the regular press conference on 20 January.

The seventh round of peace talks was held in Kunming, China in previous days.

"China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors, and China firmly opposes any conflict or unrest in Myanmar," she said at the press conference.

Although detailed information has not yet released by the relevant sides, border gates located in Chinshwehaw were reportedly opened by the Chinese side on 19 January. In addition, the United Wa State Army (UWSA) also announces that the Namtit bridge which connects between the Wa and Kokang regions was allowed to open by the Chinese authorities.

Other news outlets report that the MNDAA (Kokang armed group) will have to withdraw from Lashio by June 2025.
