According to reports in state-owned newspapers, the military is working to advance from the first stage of building a Three-Dimensional Combat Ready Navy to an Adjacent Force Projection/Regional Navy capable of deploying to Myanmar and adjacent seas.
The Myanmar Navy has transformed from buyers of foreign vessels to builders and can now produce a range of vessels, from river-going vessels to large, frigate-like warships.
The necessary training for these warships has also been provided to junior naval officers, and they will continue to receive practical training for large warships.
With a coastline of 1,260 nautical miles and over 1,400 islands, Myanmar's seas are an important region that controls the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea, which are parts of the Indian Ocean that play a key role in modern politics, economics, and military affairs.
The Myanmar Navy owns 232 warships, including submarines, patrol boats, and frigates, and is ranked 11th in the world's list of countries with the most warships in 2025, according to international military researchers.
