Indian Embassy celebrates 76th Republic Day with grand ceremony

The 76th anniversary of India’s Republic Day was celebrated on January 27, hosted by the Embassy of India at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Yangon.

At the ceremony, after singing the national anthems of India and Myanmar, a video showcasing recent developments in the bilateral relations between the two countries was presented.

Afterward, the Ambassador of India, Abhay Thakur, delivered a speech in which he emphasized the strong ties between Myanmar and India. He remarked, “The people of India and Myanmar have long shared a mutual cultural understanding, and even during times of hardship, they have always stood by each other as the best neighbours. They show compassion and understanding towards one another’s concerns and priorities.”

In addition, Ambassador Abhay Thakur, in his speech, also emphasized the principles of the Constitution of India.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, the Union Minister for the Office of the State Administration Council, Admiral Tin Aung San and his spouse, Union Minister from the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Deputy Ministers from the Ministry of Legal Affairs, and the Ministry of Agriculture. Also present were the Yangon Region Military Commander, Southern Air Force Commanding Officer, Naval Training Commanding Officer, Coast Guard Commanding Officer, senior military officials, Ambassadors and senior embassy officials from other nations in Myanmar, political party representatives, civil society organizations, members of the Indian community, and scholars.

At the event, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center (SVCC) of the Indian Embassy presented an enchanting cultural performance featuring traditional Indian dances and yoga demonstrations.

Following that, Ambassador Abhay Thakur, along with the distinguished guests mentioned above, took a commemorative photograph together.

The ceremony concluded with a dinner reception.

Republic Day is a national holiday in India, marking the adoption of the Indian Constitution and the country's shift to a republic, which officially took place on January 26, 1950.
