On the evening of February 7, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, global humanitarian, spiritual leader, and peace envoy along with his delegation, arrived in Myanmar.
They were warmly received at Yangon International Airport by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, regional ministers, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, representatives from the Indian Embassy in Myanmar, and local youth.
On the morning of February 8, Gurudev held an event for business leaders themed "Inspirational Leadership & Inner Peace," where he delivered motivating speeches. Later in the afternoon, another session took place at the National Theatre, where he spoke to the public about ways to live life.
In the evening, Gurudev and his group visited the Shwedagon Pagoda, where they participated in meditation, offered prayers, and made several donations to the pagoda.
Later, Gurudev was invited to dinner at the residence of the Indian Ambassador and his family. The event was attended by some prominent figures from Myanmar's political and social circles.
It is reported that during the event, there was an open and informal exchange of ideas and discussions between Gurudev, the global peace envoy, and the attendees.
This is Gurudev's first visit to Myanmar. Although efforts to invite him to the country had been made for the past three to four years, various circumstances had caused delays and obstacles in making this visit happen.
Gurudev has been honored with the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award, as well as the highest civilian honors from Colombia, Mongolia, Paraguay, and Suriname.
