Authorities seize over 200 illegal foreign nationals in single day

The State Administration Council (SAC) issued a statement confirming the arrest of over 200 illegal foreign nationals attempting to enter Myanmar on February 16 alone.
A total of 231 foreign nationals were identified and detained for illegally entering Shwekokko and KK Park areas in Myawaddy Township on February 16.
Therefore, it is reported that departmental teams are collecting and documenting the necessary personal information and records to facilitate the swift repatriation of the detainees to their respective countries.
The SAC stated that from January 30 to February 16, 2025, a total of 1,030 foreign nationals who illegally entered Myanmar were identified and detained, and 61 of them have been transferred to Thailand in accordance with legal procedures.
The remaining 969 foreign nationals are also ready to be transferred to their respective country and are being well-maintained, the SAC added.
According to the detained Chinese national, Mr. Qian Le Ping, “I wanted a good job in Mongla. I saw a job offer promising a high salary, so I entered Mongla illegally on March 12, 2018. When I arrived in Mongla, I worked for the Yong Le Gong online game company, owned by Chinese national Xiao Mu, for five years. On December 3, 2023, I moved to Shwekokko and worked for the Hong Tu Guo Ji company, owned by Chinese national Xian Duo Duo, from 12 pm to 12 am daily, promoting online games on computers. I received only three months' salary, 7,000 baht per month, and was not paid for the remaining months.”
