Following three days of intensive discussions, participants in Peace Forum 2025 came to a collective agreement supporting the conduct of elections while also committing to achieving enduring peace and constructing a future federal democratic republic.
Participants included delegates from organized political groups, foreign think tanks, civil society organizations and various ethnic communities. They sought empowering participation in elections as one of the steps towards conflict resolution. Every participant worked on presenting issues pertaining to election’s credibility, including ways to resolve them. Most importantly, there was unanimous agreement on holding credible elections without any opposing views.
The forum went beyond the elections and focused on peacebuilding. It reviewed strategies for inclusively working with distant and marginalized participants as a means of promoting holistic national cohesion.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) stressed that peace must always be pursued through dialogue and political negotiation. He called upon all stakeholders, including ethnic armed groups and terrorist organizations, to pursue political solutions instead of violence.
Participants also agreed this approach is critical towards attaining lasting peace as well as authentic federalism in the country.
About 150 resolutions were discussed during this forum. They will be consolidated and sent to the Chairman of SAC which is an important milestone towards Myanmar's enduring quest for peace and state-building according to a forum attendee. –
