Buddhist peace prayer event to be held at Thai-Myanmar border

It is reported that Buddhist peace prayer event that will take place at the Dhamma Haywon Buddhist Temple on the Myanmar side of the Three Pagoda Pass at 9 am (Myanmar time) on July 6, 2025.
Reports show renowned senior monks from Karen State will join local Buddhist monks to pray for peace in Myanmar, particularly focusing on Karen State, where armed conflicts have been intensifying in recent months.
According to the source sent to the Statesman Journal, these senior monks are taking a symbolic journey along a difficult route, which is controlled by various armed groups, such as the Karen National Union (KNU), the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), the Border Guard Force (BGF), the Karen National Liberation Army (Peace Council) KNLA (PC), and the PDF. Not even heavy rains and the difficult terrain could stop these monks from making this journey, and it says a lot about the commitment to making peace and reconciliation in their communities.
“Although No. 6 military strategy headquarter of KNU is conducting inspections and interrogations, the event will still be held as planned,” a person close to the organizers told the Statesman Journal.
Due to these inspections, senior monks are facing difficulties traveling and have been provided with additional security, he said. Similarly, it is reported that Thai monks traveling from the Thai side to the Three Pagoda are also receiving security arrangements.
According to the source, nearly 200 monks are expected to attend the prayer event. This includes at least 20 Thai monks, 13 Karen senior monks, around 100 Mon and Karen monks from the Three Pagoda Pass area, as well as three senior monks who are spiritual leaders of Karen armed groups.
This event will mark the starting point of hope for a nationwide peace movement in Myanmar, inspiring other religious and community leaders across the country to come together to end the conflict. Religious leaders from Thailand, especially those based near the border, are also expected to participate in future activities inspired by this initiative.
