Karen National Union’s Central Executive Committee released a statement today (May 9) informing that the KNU Headquarters won’t be attending the peace talk invited by the State Administration Council’s Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, saying that ‘the invitation offers limited seats available for the limited stakeholders’.
The statement said: “The KNU has been continuously seeking the way to develop the sustainable peace and has many experiences in the history resolving the political crisis through the political talks peacefully.”
The talk must be all-inclusive in which all stakeholders that should be involved in building the federal democratic union in the future if the sustainable peace is really desired to be developed, the KNU says.
The KNU believes that the peace invitation won’t achieve long-lasting and enduring peace as all has been expecting and won’t terminate the armed conflicts since the invitation seems offering only limited seats and excluding the stakeholders that should be involved, according to the statement.
The KNU advocates, in its statement, to encompass the international involvements in aspect of observers or facilitators or witnesses, or technological and resource aids.
The KNU calls for Tatmadaw’s leaving from the country’s politics and accepting the transitional justices; and demands mutual respect/recognition and equal discussion with shared values.
Currently, Karen National Union (Headquarters), Kachin Independence Army, Chin National Front, Karenni National Progressive Party, and All Burma Students’ Democratic Front have declared not attending the talk.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing offered the peace invitation to the EAOs’ leaders. But the EAOs replied not attending the political talk as it lacks all-inclusiveness in the political talk.
