During the peace talk between State Administration Council and Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army-Peace Council, the two sides agreed to formulate the issues related to regional stability and protecting the local people, Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt, a spokesperson of the KNU/KNLA-PC told the NP News.
KNU/KNLA-PC met with the SAC for the peace for three days in Naypyidaw starting on May 26.
“We will continue making efforts to attain the peace. With respect to the union peace, we have reached an agreement to build the federal democratic union,” Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt said.
He remarked that nationwide issues couldn’t be extensively discussed during the talk since it was a one-on-one discussion.
“However, either SAC or us (ethnic groups), although we haven’t yet reached a written agreement, we attained understanding between us that negotiations and compromise are required to restore the peace,” he said.
Ten EAOs have registered to attend the peace talk invited by the SAC Chair Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. Currently, the SAC has met with RCSS/SSA (Shan), NMSP (Mon), and KNU/KNLA-PC (Kayin) in this invitation.
The SAC Chair met with the EAOs in separate sessions. Agreements attained from the discussions were signed by the individual groups, according to the reports.
