The government will strive to assuring the full rights of ethnic people in the upcoming general election for upholding their full rights in the parliament, the Chairman of the State Administration Council told during the National Defence and Security Council (NDSC) meeting that was held on 31st July 2022.
He also stated that it is instrumental for the inclusion of ethnic national races to uphold their full rights for the upcoming general election since the country’s ultimate goal is toward democracy and federalism.
“Respective Hluttaw and executive bodies are formed to operate the country’s governance via electoral results. Therefore, I would like to convene the election urging for the inclusiveness of representatives from all ethnic people from different geographic backgrounds and people from different social strata,” the SAC Chairman presented at the NDSC meeting.
In Myanmar, there have been three times General Elections held since the introduction of the multi-party democratic system. Out of 330 townships nationwide, the elections were held altogether in a total of 325 townships in 2010; in 323 townships in 2015, and in 315 townships in 2020.
The Chairman of SAC continued, “We noticed that number of township constituencies is decreasing in the previous elections respectively. It is noticeable that more and more ethnic constituencies are lessening and losing the ethnics right to vote especially during the democratic government that had uttered democracy all the time. Therefore, there are matters to be addressed for implementing all-inclusiveness for upcoming general elections without leaving behind any constituency within the country.”
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing also addressed in his speech to people on 1st August that “Only the Hluttaws can amend the Constitution. Therefore, the inclusion of ethnic representatives in Hluttaws is instrumental in amending the Constitution”.
During the speech on August 1, he repeatedly invited the Ethnic Armed Organizations(EAOs) to take the political platform and to hold peace talks for the sake of their regions and national races.
