Finance deputy minister talks with Thai banks for safe transfer remittance

Deputy Minister of Planning and Finance Maung Maung Win visited Thailand in the first week of September and met with officials from Thai banks.

The delegation was led by the deputy minister and included representatives from Labour Ministry and Central Bank.

The delegation met with representatives from the Central Bank of Thailand, Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn Bank, Siam Commercial Bank, and Krung Thai Bank to discuss on safe remittance process of Myanmar expatriates to their families.

The deputy minister also met with officials from TRUE Money, D Money, and 2C2P money transfer businesses from Thailand.

Banks from Myanmar are cooperating with Thai banks for a safe money transfer process, he said. Safety won’t be guaranteed if the migrant workers transferred money through such financial businesses that aren’t authorized by the Central Bank of Myanmar and Central Bank of Thailand.

There are more than one million migrant workers from Myanmar in Thailand, according to the legal records.

Data says remittance of Myanmar nationals into the country was more than USD 200m within the first six months of 2022.
