An army deserter who left the military at his ‘Lieutenant Colonel’ rank in February 2022 and joined the underground life under the NUG management now returned and has disclosed the NUG’s propaganda works aiming to highlight that Myanmar military is losing institutional solidarity.

State Administration Council’s Information Team released a video footage to the media this afternoon (October 5) of the confessor (the Lt. Col-ranked deserter) making a confession.

The army deserters who joined the NUG were forced to engage in the interviews arranged by the NUG with its affiliated media outlets to say fakes and wrong information mainly about the military solidarity, said the confessor continuing that the interview questions were framed to attract more servicemen and civil servants to join in civil disobedience movement.

“During the interview, we designed the interview questions to humiliate the institutional solidarity of the Tatmadaw. The questions were schemed mainly to attract more Tatmadawmen and civil servants to join in the CDM; as far as I remember, I was forced to say fabricated information that the military attacked civilians in Sagaing and there are many Tatmadawmen who wanted to join the NUG,” the confessor said.

The confessor was a Lieutenant Colonel at the military before he conducted the desertion. He served as the temporary Battalion Commander before the desertion.

He illegally left the military because he was convicted of fraud of misuse of the battalion funds.
