The Department of Trade of the Ministry of Commerce announced to issue Certificate of Origin (CO) forms for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) in November to the products that are originated and produced by Myanmar and headed to China for free customs charges.

The enforcement of the RCEP agreements between ASEAN nations, Australia, China, Korea, Japan and New Zealand has already commenced since 1st January 2022.

“Myanmar’s agreement with China started into force first. There are more than 5,000 cargo lines between Myanmar and China. Tariffs will be free either import or export. There will be more lawful trade,” said the deputy minister of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr. Wah Wah Maung.

Therefore, the exporters can apply the C/O forms for the RCEP as per the procedures commencing in November 2022 at the offices of the Department of Trade of the Ministry of Commerce. Also, those who want to apply for the approved exporters, in accordance with the agreement, can submit their applications at Online Co Application System starting from 1st November 2022.

Exportation to China can be carried out via border routes or waterway deliveries.

Currently, Myanmar is granted unilateral duty free schemes from the EUs, US and 11 other countries as per the Generalized System of Preferences; Preferential Tariff Scheme to the least developed countries from South Korea; Duty Free Tariff Preference (DFTP) Scheme from India; and tariff free programs from China.
