Armed clashes, vandalism halt commodity flows on Asia Highway in Kayin State

The #Myawaddy_Kawkareik #Asi_ Road in Kayin State has been under closure for two days and therefore, commodity flow has been halted,” according to local people.

There are crossfires between Myanmar Military and KNLA and its allies near Kawkareik Township and Asia Road. In addition, one of the bridges on the Asia Road was sabotaged by terrorists’ mines.

Vehicles leaving Myawaddy were temporarily stopped, starting from the evening of 21st December, near Kawknwe Bridge at the exit of Kawkareik.

“As far as we heard, the Kawknwe Bridge is being closed down. The bridge is just outside of the Kawkareik Township and the closure might be due to the battles. No car can leave from here nor can come to here.” one of the local people said to NP News.

not only private cars but also lorries are stuck in traffic, which deters the flow of goods between Myanmar and Thailand.

In recent days, a bridge located near KNU’s old husbandry zone on the Asia Road was sabotaged and destroyed and many cars could not pass there.

Fire exchange occurred yesterday (December 22) evening in Kawkareik and surrounding areas.
