According to the Myanmar Corn Industrial Association (MCIA), Myanmar has exported more than 1.5 million tons of corn to Thai, China, India, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Bangladesh from February to 22nd July.
There are potential markets in Bangladesh for corn from Myanmar.
“Mostly we export corn to Thai via the border trade route. 60 percent of all corn export goes to Thailand. We export to Thailand via both border route and shipment whereas exporting to China via border trade; and to India, Philippines, Vietnam, and Bangladesh via shipment,” an official from the MCIA said.
Thailand allowed tax exemption on Myanmar’s corns from February 1st to August 31st. Apart from that period, Thailand imposes 73 percent tariffs in order to protect its farmers.
