Former KNU Chair helps and supports for peace as a national duty

The former chairman of the Karen National Union (KNU) met with the local public and shared about peace.

An event honouring the former KNU chairman Saw Mutu Say Poe was held on 29th August in Brigade 6 territory’s Phar Pya Village for praising his efforts for peace during his term.

Saw Mutu Say Poe said, during the event, that it is the responsibility of every citizen to achieve peace both nationwide and Kayin territory.

Likewise, chairman of the KNU’s Du Palayar District Padoh Saw Shwe Maung remarked that every citizen wants peace but approaches are different.

On August 26th, former chairman Saw Mutu Say Poe met with the district chairmen, district executives, and officials from the battalions at Mae Ka Tha Village located in KNU Brigade 6 territory, and discussed peace issues.

The source close to the KNU remarked that it seems Saw Mutu Say Poe put himself forward for peace meeting with the public.

In addition, one of the residents of Brigade 6 said, “People want internal peace. So, he starts to meet with the public. All are interested in what will be next. Internal peace is essential. Otherwise, all of us will be homeless. I am the one who also sacrificed the home. We extremely want peace in our territory,” to NP News.

KNU’s former president Saw Mutu Say Poe has retired since the 17th Conference that was held in April in which he did not take part in the congress election.

Phado Saw Kwal Htoo Win became the new chairman of the KNU and he stated that KNU will not follow and obey the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).
